Sports Council Merit Awards
- July 2005 Winner
MUCKAMORE MAN PAT DERRICK IS THE INAUGURAL
WINNER OF THE
SPORTS COUNCIL MERIT AWARDS
Derek was appointed as the Host Manager as his
club, Muckamore Cricket Club, welcomed Denmark, Uganda, Oman and Canada for the
recent ICC Trophy – the biggest tournament matches that the club have ever been
part of in their 31 year history.
Pat received his Sports Council and Sunday Life
Merit Award recently at the club’s grounds as recognition for the amount of work
that the club had undertaken to host these prestigious matches. After a
successful application and inspections by the NCU organisers, Pat and his team
worked to upgrade facilities.
Derek was delighted to have won the Merit Award
but insisted in paying tribute to all the club members. He commented “The
preparation for the tournament matches involved all levels of club membership
for roles such as preparing the wicket, moving screens and pitch covers,
scoring, catering, cleaning, security and car parking.”
He continued “On match days there were some 50
members involved in ensuring everything ran smoothly and I am just happy to have
been part of it all.”
