Sports Council Merit Awards  - August 2005 Winner




Olcan McFetridge is the Sports Council and Sunday Life Merit Award winner for the month of August.Olcan was nominated by his wife, Helen as recognition for the life long commitment he has given to the game of hurling in Armoy and Antrim.

Olcan was, and still is one of the most talented hurlers that Antrim ever produced and he will always be remembered for scoring one of the greatest goals that Croke Park has ever seen in the 1989 All Ireland Semi Final against Offaly.

The 1989 season was a memorable one for Olcan, as he received an All Star for his contribution in helping Antrim progress to the All Ireland Final.

Olcan received his Sports Council and Sunday Life Merit Award recently at the club’s grounds as recognition for the amount of work that he has put into hurling over the past number of decades for his club, Armoy and for his county, Antrim
